Hello Cordero Community Members Old and New!

The school year is fast approaching and I understand that many of you are excited to begin. Here is some information to help alleviate your anxiety and provide some benchmarks of communication expectations in the coming weeks through a FAQ:

I have been trying to reach out to the office throughout the summer and have not received any response, what is the problem?

Please note that our office is closed over the summer and our office staff are on vacation. Our office staff is scheduled to return on Monday, August 21. Please provide them time to respond to your requests as they have come in. If you have anything that has not been resolved by Friday, August 25, please email me directly at dstanton@jcboe.org.

What is my child’s class assignment this year?

For our new Cordero students in Pre-K (3 or 4), you will receive an email from me with your classroom assignment by 3pm, Monday, August 28. That email will contain your child’s teacher’s email address, location of the classroom within the building. Further information about entry will be provided by 3pm Tuesday, September 5. Your child’s teacher will contact you directly via email by 3pm September 6.

For our new Cordero students in grades K-8, pending registration, your assignments will be given once registration is complete. Middle School Schedules will be provided to students as soon as they are fully registered.

For existing Cordero students, homeroom class assignments for students entering grades PK4 through Grade 5 were provided in the last report card of the year. This was given out on the last day of school or mailed to the home address on file. Students entering grades 6-8 will be able to see their finalized schedule on Infinite Campus by 3pm, Monday, August 28.

If you never received the last report card from last year, you can feel free to request one from the office by calling or emailing contactps37@jcboe.org. Our office staff will not be in until Monday, August 21 and will respond to all requests in the order they were received. We ask for patience as we all get back up and running.

There will be an email with all homeroom assignments sent to your child’s jcpsnj.org account on Friday, September 1 at 3pm from me (dstanton@jcpsnj.org).

What is the uniform policy and where do I purchase them for my child?
Here is the Cordero Uniform Sales Schedule with Instructions for each grade level. All further questions can be directed to Mrs. Carattini: ccarattini@jcboe.org

When does school start?
School begins Thursday, September 7 at 8:30. Students in grades Pre-K through Grade 2 will be picked up by their child’s teacher. Grades 3-8 will go directly to their classroom. Staff will be posted at each entrance in order to help students know which classroom they should go to.

What supplies do I need for my child?
Supply lists can be reviewed at our website: https://ps37.jcboe.org/apps/supplies

What do I do with the large amount of supplies? It will be difficult for my child to bring all of that stuff up to their classroom.
Starting August 30 (DATE CHANGED) bins will be available for drop-off of classroom supplies. Please ensure they are labeled with your child’s name.

I have heard I can come to school on the first day. Is that true?
Parents of Pre-K Students can attend the first day of school and follow the program of their child’s teacher. Your child’s teacher will be communicating how that will look and what the schedule will be for that day. Please stay tuned.

How will the school communicate?
Cordero uses multiple sources of communication to support all families. These include:

What is Infinite Campus and how do I get my login?

Infinite Campus is our district information system. It contains your child’s information for their education as well as their teacher information, marking period grades and progress reports (Grades K-8), and schedule (Grades 6-8).

If your child has been a student at Cordero, you can use the previous username and password on the student site: https://jerseycitynj.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/students/jerseycity.jsp

If your child is new, you can complete the password reset process in order to gain access. The process can be completed at this website: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfwMZXcLu2EX2uzAsnaO7HBAJrJUbS7aUBUWacnpai66jyiig/viewform

Please note that if your child is not on roll with our system, you will need to wait for that to happen. Jcpsnj.org accounts take longer than Infinite Campus accounts to set up.

What is the jcpsnj.org email for my child and how can I review it?
The Jersey City Public Schools utilizes Google’s G-Suite through a student-only domain (jcpsnj.org). Gmail and other apps are available to all registered students.

In order to reset a password or request your child’s account information, please complete the reset process. The process can be completed at this website: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfwMZXcLu2EX2uzAsnaO7HBAJrJUbS7aUBUWacnpai66jyiig/viewform

There is a waiting period of a few days before student accounts are activated after they are registered so please be patient. As the school year begins, teachers in lower grades will likely change passwords to support their use in the classroom for beginning of the year online assessments. After the first day of school, teachers in grades K-5 should be consulted for passwords before completing a password reset.

Students can communicate with their teachers and school staff but cannot do so outside of the domain. Staff can also only receive emails from users within the domain.

How do I sign up for before school and after school care?
Sign ups will take place once the school year has begun. Last year, early registration began before the first day of school. Once the district provides that information, we will share it on all communication networks.

Traditionally, the first day of Morning STARS (before care) is 7am on the first Monday of school. CASPER begins at 2:55 the first Monday of school. Registration for both programs is online and can be supported through our CASPER facilitators  (btowersdiaz@jcboe.org, dmulholland@jcboe.org) and Morning STARS facilitator (mkhiry@jcboe.org). Prices last year were $150/month for CASPER and $58/month for Morning STARS. Please note that prices are not pro-rated or discounted for not attending.

Cordero will continue to partner with the YMCA of Newark this year to provide after-school care/activities for students in grades 3-8. The program is free and will require registration through their website. Once details are given, they will be passed on. Please note that there is limited space available early in the school year and cannot be guaranteed.
